The KIOKU family is made up of husband-and-wife duo Chef Shawn Shum and Pastry Chef Sunny Cheong and partners Herman Wijaya and Janet Lim – food and wine connoisseurs. Together, they bring passion and precision to Restaurant KIOKU with the desire to create memorable experiences for diners.

Chef / Founder – Shawn Shum

Looked up to as the head of the family, Shawn likes to take everyone who works with him under his wing – forming a strong bond with his team. 

He has spent 15 years honing his skills in numerous kitchens at home in Malaysia as well as in Singapore. In that time, he has also garnered valuable experience from being involved in the setting up and launching of his very own Restaurant VOiD – a dream that became a reality in 2018. Since then, the restaurant has gone through a rebranding and has relaunched as KIOKU. 

As a self-taught chef, Shawn crosses the boundaries of any confines and creates his own unique works of art

on a plate.

Pastry Chef – Sunny Cheong

Sunny is the ray of sunshine in the KIOKU family. 

Driven by her passion for food since a young age, she pursued her studies in Food Science. This was the launchpad for her journey to baking. It was on this journey when she met Shawn and they have followed the same path ever since. 

With all the experience gained, she has come into her own as a creative pastry chef with an imagination that knows no bounds – creating pieces of edible art.
